Unprofessional Conduct by Current Sheriff Gene Mitchell

Folks, according to a source this morning an employee inside the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office was asked by one of the sheriff's close family members if they were going to walk out at midnight when Sheriff-Elect Max Sanders takes over.  The answer:  Yes.  We were told the name of the family member but will not name the person.  What is that about?  We were told that since November 6th Sheriff Gene Mitchell has yet to answer or return a single phone call or text from Sheriff-Elect Max Sanders.  If that is true it sounds like Mitchell is a poor sport and even more unprofessional than most people thought.  If the sheriff-elect has tried repeatedly to communicate with him to try and organize a smooth transition that is very disappointing.  If the sheriff and or someone within his family is encouraging people to walk out and the leave the new sheriff without employees that is very troubling.  Makes you want to vomit.

  1. Just shows what kind of people they are and how they think. I thought Gene came back for the county? Sounds like it was or is all about him and making money$ if it really was about the county he would not be conducting himself this way or letting his very close family member do the same.

  2. I have had several employees who have said Gene does not want them to work for Mr. Sanders. Does he not realize that unlike him the employees live pay check to pay check and can't not apply for or take a job out of spite. He got his salary and jail food money for 12 years plus all his brothers hauled in, they all have their retirement time in, they can afford to walk out. How can they ask employees to sacrifice themselves and families over a political race wh=n they weren't even the candidate.

    1. How can you walk out on a job when the new man didn't even hire you. How can you walk out on something you don't have gene, tez? I $ this how professionals with character and integrity conduct themselves? You should be telling your employees we had a good run but it is over now it is time for you to do what is best for you and your families and I will do anything I can to help you. Then reach out to new sheriff and have a smooth transition and use that as an opportunity to try and promote your employees for future employment. Gene is doing just the opposite, very bitter.

  3. Gene is wrong for asking or encouraging em]loyees to fall on the sword for his failures as a leader and as a candidate. He thought he was unbeatable and he got out worked, that is not the employees and their families fault, that is his fault and his alone.

    1. Gene himself under estimated his opponent and the republican turnout in the county and maybe because of that mis calculation he was lazy during the campaign, now he wants employees to walk out and put a financial strain on themselves and their families for his short Cummings while he goes home to the Prarie with his retirement check and jail food money not to mention the stain that will be on the employees reputation.

  4. Yeah Gene wanting his employees to not even apply for a job with Mr. Sanders out of loyalty to him. Who is going to pay these employees bills and buy their food etc? Gene is 80 years old he has his, this shows his true character and what he really thinks about his employees. So sad!

  8. If I were an employee of his I'd stay put. If I was corrupt and a follower I'd be gone. Alabama Sheriff's fixing to get a wake up call

  9. Over the last 12 years probably upwards of 40 percent of employees have been out of county workers and most have did a pretty good job but Gene is trying to destroy the sheriff's department with what he is doing now by bullying the lawrence county employees who have been there 20 or so years to not apply or walk out. He is trying to gut the department of its foundation and and most experienced career county members of the department. Pure bullying by someone who failed during the campaign and now wants those who supported him to dive on the grenade to somehow validate his failure like it was not a legitimate victory by Mr. Sanders or something.

  11. Since November 6th Gene has showed the world what kind of person he is and what his character is. He has shown he is a vengeful montgomery gutter politician who is a sore looser. No class!

  13. What Gene is doing is so childish, refusing to call, talk or communicate in any shape form or fashion with Mr. Sanders, this is not what a true professional does Gene. You are showing everyone what a weak individual you are. Not a career law enforcement professional but a career politician. Gene is just pissed that he has gotten humiliated all over the state in front of all the other sheriff's and montgomery that he has had snowed all these years.

    1. I wonder how much county money has been paid to someone named mitchell in the last 12 years? It will all come out in the next few months and people will see he has destroyed the sheriff's department from within and bankrupt the county, just wait till all the records are gone thru. I can't wait to see how much he has made off jail food the last twelve years.

    2. Nothing wrong with hiring family if they are qualified most importantly! They do not have to be the highest paid in the department (genes two brothers were the two highest ranking and highest paid in the whole department) they need to be properly supervised even though they are family and must, I mean must absolutely work. They got to pull their weight and work and not just show up and draw a check because they are family.

    3. The three highest paid people for 12 years inside the sheriff's department was sheriff (gene), chief deputy (kenneth) and captain (curtis). Which was also the three highest ranks in the department. What did kenneth do for such high rank and pay? Cu%tis? Sleep at the courthouse? That is the problem with hiring family, when it's all about the money and getting their retirement up and they are not required to perform at the same level as everyone else, held to the same standards and treated the same as everyone else. Not special treatment, rank and pay.

  15. Just seen on channel 31 about jailers being assaulted gene said it was two on duty but he typically has 4 on duty. Folks that is probably the biggest lie that his been told in I don't know when. There may be four during the day but one is chief jailer and other is transport person for court and hearings. Every law enforcement officer and inmate who has ever been in the jail knows there are only two jailers on duty and one of them is in control room and can't come out. Gene you are a lying son of a gun. Lies, lies and lies. 6 days to go and still lying. Come on Gene, why can you not tell the truth.

  16. Damn are all the sheriffs in Alabama corrupt as hell???? I thought ana was the only worst, now looks like several fall right behind her. Get them all the hell out of office.

  17. Unsafe working conditions for corrections officers. Just two on duty per shift and one of them is locked in a control room, what a liability.

  18. Well it finally made the papers, Gene confirmed his brother had a wreck, totaled a county vehicle and sent two people to the hospital. Didn't take but 20 days. If that would have been the average joe a press release would have went out immediately.
