Blogger Comments: Folks, this story is unbelievable and just think if it hadn't been for sheriff Ana Franklin we may not know half of the story. Can you imagine the entire amount taken over the years? Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely has been in office over 20 years. He took inmate food funds up until he asked for a State Attorney General Legal Opinion in 2011. To our knowledge, he hasn't taken inmate food funds since 2011. What about all the years prior to 2011. What about all the other 49 sheriffs in Alabama? What about sheriff Ana Franklin that would have us believe that the first money she took was in 2016 for the now-bankrupt car dealership? We believe that Sheriff Franklin is right up at the top with Etowah County Sheriff Entrekin.
The treatment of the inmates, the lack of food, rotting food, bread with mold that was picked off prior to feeding the inmates! How unethical, how low can one go? Do these sheriffs have hearts? Surely no man or woman is born without a soul. No man or woman is born without compassion and love for all of God's creatures. Inmates are people. Their punishment is in jail. We do not live in a third world country that allows inhumane treatment of those in custody. What a disgrace to all the Alabama Law Enforcement Officers that have taken inmate food fund.
In reading the article it sounds like the county commission may have some explaining to do as well since Entrekin shared his payload with the commission in a Gentleman's Agreement.
