Lawrence County

Blogger Comments:  Now that Lawrence County has a new sheriff the inmate food funds will remain in the account they belong in to feed the inmates.  Congratulations Mr. Max Sanders, Sr.  The citizens of Alabama are sick and tired of sheriffs taking inmate food funds and it shows in the polls.

  1. Well Gene Mitchell showed his true colors last night unlike his 3 previous races he did not go to the rec center and congratulate his opponent, did not return calls to the media. Just shows he was a sore looser! Gene I guses that poll you did in 2017 that said you would win by 70% no matter which party you ran as was off by about 22 points. Would Montez have said the same thing if you had switched party's like you were exploring and still lost. By the way do you feel the same way about the yellow dog democrats who vote straight party votes? I mean you got about 1200 black votes from straight party voting, is tez talking about them? You ran a poor campaign, you did not work and you thought it was beneath you to have to politic, well it doesn't work that way, you made your bed so lie in it. This is all your fault and yours alone.

    1. He did go to the rec center so once again get your damn facts straight before running your mouth . Get a damn life that doesn't include sitting around making up bullshit lies .

    2. If he went no one was there but the clean up crew. Where's the pictures etc. If he went he waited till everyone was gone before he showed up. Tez fussing in her facebook post about Montgomery mess, Gene cut his teeth in that Montgomery mess. In light of Genes record of minority hiring and treatment of minority employees - the couple he has had, if those democrats had not stood behind that sign Mr. Sanders would have beat him by another 1200 votes. Complaining about republicans voting straight party when his bread and butter minority vote is what has carried him for three races and he is not even thankful.

    1. He is the one who famously coined Gene Mitchell as a silver tongue devil over the police radio.

  3. Just two days after the election in which he lost to a political newcomer, Gene Mitchell is no where to be found and has abandoned his dutis and responsibilitis as sheriff but cashed his check thursday.

    3. Yeah he cares so much about his employees that in his Facebook post on Nov 7th he thanked everyone but his employees who are the reason he got 3/4 of the votes he got. He don't give a shit about his employees, go back and look after every race he has been in, he never credits his employees. It's all about him, he is intimated and threatened by anyone he thinks my shine more than him. He never gives employees credit.

    4. Max just plain whipped Gene! Maybe now he will get those signs up, 5 days to get them up and maybe we will never see anyone be so childish about signs again. 13 signs in one intersection, so overboard and childish, should have saved that money on all those signs.

    5. Speaking of signs, did everyone notice how quick people got those gene mitchell signs out of their yards, even family, lol. People be were out there in their pajamas and house shoes snatching up them signs before daylight. They were like I don't want anyone to know I voted for him.

    6. The only employees he is worried about health insurance and retirement is for his brothers. How much will they clean out of the county coffers when they depart?

  4. You say that about russ in your title but what about Gene, he got beat by someone who has never been in politics a day of his life. Gene had no vision and no energy, his whole campaign was dead and he ran a dirty campaign. The little short raskel.

  5. Gene needs to learn how to appreciate his employees like Mike:

Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely was elected to what could be a record 10th term Tuesday.

With all precincts counted, Blakely, a Democrat, scored a victory over Republican challenger Eric Redd and write-in candidate Eric Smith. Blakely received 57.01 percent of the vote, while Redd garnered 41.95 percent. More than 300 voters, or 1.04 percent, cast a write-in ballot in the race.

Blakely's victory means a significant number of voters in Republican-leaning Limestone County did not vote a straight ticket, a fact Blakely said he was concerned about initially. Republican candidates were favored in both of the other county races.

“It's very humbling,” he said. “I'm very blessed and fortunate.”

Blakely said he can understand why many voters would have chosen a Republican candidate, given the fact many Limestone Countians disagree with the national Democratic platform. The sheriff said he doesn't agree with many of its principles, especially concerning abortion and gun control.

“To me, those things are settled law,” he said.

Despite his election successes over the past 36 years, this will be Blakely's last run for sheriff.

“This is something I've always wanted to do and enjoy doing, but honestly this is my last race,” he said. “I don't see myself running for anything again.”

He wanted to thank “numerous” people who worked on his campaign, but described his Chief Deputy Fred Sloss and Communications Supervisor Tammy Waddell as being the “spark plugs” for his campaign.

“I've been blessed to not only have the people of this county behind me, but also the greatest group of employees,” Blakely said.

    1. Gene Mitchell is all about Gene Mitchell, he has never cared about or given credit to anyone other than himself unless it was a political advantage for him. That's why his employees turned on him. They were liking his stuff on facebook and working against him every day. Except for a few hard core gene mitchell supporters who need to go!

  9. Little man short Gene Mitchell you got 4 days to get them signs up, including county roads. If you don't I may have have to take out papers on you for breaking the law?

  10. Well Gene Mitchell ran a lazy campaign and now he is running a even more lazy post campaign if that is possible. Most candidates have removed their signs from the public right of ways but not ole Gene, he must be planning a 2022 race and going to leave them out. Heard he is telling his supporters to save his signs he may run again. Better be worried about those sheriff's department records.
