Very Interesting but where are Morgan County escapees in this lineup?

Blogger Comments:  Folks you reckon that the reason sheriff Ana Franklin didn't make #1 in the below list is because she does everything in her power to keep escapees from the Morgan County Jail quiet?

Happy Tuesday, folks.

Here’s what we’re reckoning with today:

The Alabama Ethics Commission is no longer looking into the Beach House Sheriff’s use of jail food funds, saying “The law establishes that whereas personal use may look bad, it may be bad policy, it doesn't violate the law. As it relates to this particular sheriff.”

In other words, it ain’t great but it ain’t illegal. Meanwhile,Reckon’s Kyle Whitmire wonders what the Ethics Commission actually is interested in.

As always, send us your feedback and tips

Alabama Jails with Escapes

Alabama’s prison population have R-U-N-N-O-F-T. The state and the feds don’t track jail, so Reckon’s Amy Yurkanin analyzed court records and identified 45 escapes from city and county jails in 2017. Here’s a little bit of what she found:
·    Several small jails had multiple escapes in 2017 and 2018, including the 12 escapees from Walker County’s notorious peanut butter escape.
·    Most escapes happen in jails outside the state’s major metropolitan areas. That could be because small jails are increasingly struggling with overcrowding and staffing, which may make it easier to escape.
·    Three sheriffs recently said they’ve had more escapes in the past two years than the decade prior.
·    Four inmates escaped jails twice in 2017 and 2018. Three out of four escaped the same jail twice, and one enterprising individual escaped from two different jails.

  1. Ana why aren't you reporting you inmate jail breaks? Oh I forgot you are never in the office.

  2. Where the hell is lawrence county? We have had 3 people escape in two individual escapes in 3 weeks. Gene Mitchell got that info locked down like he does his burglaries and thefts, if it ain't solved it didn't happen. Or they classify cases as unfounded if they think they are unsolveable.

    1. This just proves that they all fudge on their numbers and don't report crimes.

  3. Lawrence county has an escapee on the loose now and yesterday instead of looking for the escapee the sheriff gene mitchell and the chief jailer went to a volleyball game, can you believe it?

  4. Gene Mitchell wants everyone to think he is a genius when it comes to law enforcement but put that hand on a bible and get him under oath and he is as dumb as a box of rocks, can't remember and don't know anything. That why he is call ed lying Gene.

  5. Is there not a state or federal investigation of the jail when inmates escapee from jail? Do they not impose fines when inmates escape? What are the repercussions of the jail when inmates escape?

  6. They didn't include work release escapes, which accounts for many in Morgan and Lawrence
