High Price for Stealing

Former Alabama county official sentenced on ethics charges

  • RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. (AP) — A onetime county official accused of taking about $750,000 in public funds in north Alabama is going to prison.
News outlets report that Judge Pride Tompkins sentenced former Franklin County administrator Crista Lynn Madden to 20 years in prison during a hearing Monday.
The 49-year-old Madden pleaded guilty in March to felony charges of using her office for personal financial gain.Prosecutors say Madden stole about $754,000 over her more than 10 years as Franklin County's administrator by creating false purchase orders and then putting checks into personal accounts.
Authorities say she confessed when confronted by investigators.
A judge ordered her to repay the money in addition to serving prison time.

    1. There is no doubt. There is no telling how much from all the Sheriff's Office accts, she has stolen from. But the main source of money has come from the rodeo acct. All the cash taken in there from the gate, from all the booths, parking, etc, were handed over to Livingston and Berzette, then to her. All of this money is not traced...... cash. So bottom line, how much did Livingston and Berzett skim off the top before giving it to Ana, than how much did she actually turn in as income from the rodeo???? I would guarantee the rodeo profited at least 50% more than any one knew except for her few. Ana, Berzett, Livingston had a get rich quick plan for several years.....and they succeeded. I hope the IRS knows this info also.

    3. Yeah he was too old when Ana brought him in with her also. She sent him to take the 2 week course for a law enforcement officer. He never could pass the agility course and some how Ana finagled that one for him to be certified again. He should have never become a sworn officer.

    4. She has that way about her to sweet talk folks into believing her. Hell she hired her felon son in law who beat the crap out of an elderly man in Limestone county and puts him in charge of checking inmates in at jail. Nuts

    5. Someone should check the APost #on Ron Livingstons certificate and make sure it's not his name with his sons #because he ordered a copy of Miles Livingstons certificate when Miles was working at Athens PD and there was no need for it to be sent to Morgan County and it was ordered within 6 months of him graduating the academy, so did he lose it that fast or was it used for forgery. Things that make you go hmmmm. There is a signed record of Ron Ordering a copy of Miles certificate at APost ask for open record check......its there.

  3. Ana said from the beginning No Money No Money No Money and it stayed that way except for her and those few she took care of. This crooked lying criminal needs to be removed immediately as she still tries to spread havoc and punish the employees who helped expose her criminal enterprise. She is to insane and mentally ill to realize it’s in her best interest to just resign. She is forcing people to make an example out of her.

  4. All I can say is what a mess. That money should have gone towards the guys on the road actually working. Not writing down excessive overtime while either lying in bed sleeping or surveilling the fbi office in Huntsville trying to figure out who was ratting them out. Not following innocent deputies. I pray they will see what they have done to innocent folks and justice be served

    1. Sad part about this mess is someone higher up has convinced her she has done no wrong and she believes it and has high corrupt connections. I truly believe her reign of terror is over. She will never admit it until the cuffs are on her. And they won’t be pink

    2. What makes me shake my head is the fact that these elected officials sit back and ask for prayers but refuse to understand what they've done to countless people that caused them to be standing damn near in a jail cell(currently.) No remorse, No lesson learned, and no apology. It's obvious even after they're proven guilty nothing will change. Ana felt she "won" with the inmate food funds. No lengthy facebook post about that?
