Why don't our politicians get in line?

Blogger Comments:  Isn't it time to make some major changes in Alabama?  Can those changes be made to the current establishment?  Zeigler has always been a stand-up guy.  All of our elected officials have a duty to their constituents to push for changes to antiquated laws and policies.  This is not a one-person show.

Alabama auditor requests probe of Etowah County sheriff's finances

Alabama Auditor Jim Zeigler has requested an audit of both Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin and the office he helms.
Zeigler called on Chief Examiner Ron Jones to "perform a financial audit of the Etowah County Sheriff, Todd Entrekin, as well as the Etowah County Sheriff's office" in a letter dated March 20 but only recently obtained by AL.com.
Zeigler said he made the decision to call for the financial probe after receiving "complaints" from Alabama residents who were upset about the fact that Entrekin personally kept more than $750,000 allocated to feed prisoners in Etowah County's jail over the past three years.
Zeigler sent the letter seven days after AL.com published a storyexposing the amount of inmate-feeding funds Entrekin had pocketed and the fact that he and his wife bought a $740,000 beach house in September.
"I had gotten several inquiries, complaints from citizens in Etowah County about this," Zeigler said via telephone Monday. "It's an audit to the extent that the sheriff is personally liable for the food money and there may be other things, I'm not certain - anything that the sheriff is personally responsible for."
Zeigler said that it is beyond the scope of his office to carry out an audit of a county sheriff's office, so he wrote the letter to urge Jones to launch the audit himself.Jones and Entrekin did not respond to requests for comment.
The letter also called on Jones to play a role in redirecting a specific Etowah County sales tax revenue stream from the sheriff's office to "the organizations it was taken from and originally intended for."
The request concerns a one-cent sales tax that generates hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for the sheriff's office. In 2015, the Etowah County state legislative delegation approved a bill that reallocated the funds to the office from the range of entities including schools, rescue squads, and the county commission that had previously received it.

  4. 3 of the 6 candidates for Sheriff will be at Pine Ridge Baptist Church in east Morgan County this Saturday. This will be the first time I've heard from any of them other than the usual fluff piece they put out when they announce they'll run. Hoping to hear some actual conservative visions and goals from them instead of "police (government) is the answer to everything."

    2. Before saying that, think of this. I said "Anybody but Bartlett" and voted for Ana back in 2010. Didn't vote for her in 2014 but the damage had already been done.

    1. What happened to all of that leftover inmate food fund money that Ana has in a bank somewhere in Cullman? There should be more than enough there to cover this little shortfall.

  6. Securing and hiding Saraland takes lots of money. Ana does not want to be exposed like Entrican. Ana does not want Feds or IRS to be able to get to Saraland. Shhhh! If Saraland is not an option for her she is less likely to walk away. Go away already!
