Folks, have you read this malarkey?
Blogger Comments: The Morgan County Drug Task force as seized over 12M since Ana took office. Maybe there has been more property bought in Saraland than we are aware of... When did it become the duty of the Commission to write the MCSO Request for Grant money?
Good morning. Many of you have asked about the funding for the narcotics investigators in Morgan County. For the past several years, we had been receiving information from ADECA ( grant administrators for the state ) that the grant which funded overtime and some equipment was going to be ended and reallocated to help fund drug treatment rather than enforcement except in certain areas. We repeatedly informed the Chairman that this was coming down the pike and to be prepared. We also stayed in budget as requested and helped fund our office through discretionary monies to help prepare and react to the lack of revenue and funding available.
The grant was reduced and reallocated to state agencies. Only 10 local agencies statewide were given any funding. We applied at each time there was a grant available. We also applied for school resource officer grants. We were not denied either of the grants due to our inefficiency nor due to the need. But due to Morgan County's economic position and other requirements, we were not qualified. The Morgan County DTF has seized more than 12 million dollars in drugs and assets from from dealers since I have been your Sheriff. The chairman has stated apparently that I have been busy with other things and didn't apply. That is not the case. The grant was never intended to fund salaries of deputies nor was it intended to be a permanent revenue source for our county. The Commission has had years to prepare and ample notice of the grant coming to an end. There is no county or agency in our area that has received this funding. Even the STAC UNIT for Morgan Madison narcotics joint task force lost funding. Obviously the chairman was confused.
