What is your county sheriff hiding?

Folks, it is obvious that many of the sheriffs do not want us to know how much money they have taken from the inmate food funds for themselves.  They lie steal and cheat and then use an outside agency to fight their battles in court.

What is even more revealing is that some of our legislators waited until the last minute and then claim there isn't enough time to address the issues.  Forcing the legislators that care about the issues to address them county by county.

The cowardly sheriffs now want to claim they cannot release any of the records because the case is in litigation.  Fancy meeting you here.  Had the sheriffs turned over the records and come clean, they would not be using that excuse.  The inmate food funds is an inspectable account and falls under the Alabama Open Records laws.  What is interesting about this Alabama law is it gives elected politicians a way out.  If the public official refuses to provide the information requested, your only recourse is to file a lawsuit.

Another thing we should be concerned about is all the other accounts the sheriffs maintain.  What is happening with the funds in the other accounts?

Alabama Appleseed and the the Southern Center for Human rights requested documents showing how sheriffs spent their jail food funds and how much those sheriffs put in their own pockets. 49 sheriffs ignored the requests and are fighting the public information request in court.

  1. We really should thank Franklin for bringing this to the size that it has become. Although not willingly but by her criminal actions and her greediness she is the one responsible for it. Also to Glenda for staying on course and demanding action and seeing the results of her hard work.

  2. Good job Glenda. These rotten thieving thugs all belong in the pokey. Let them eat the same shit they feed the inmates. Sorry Ana. No more seafood in south bama. No more big parties at Sarahland. Game over.

  6. I just personally feel like we are out growing these laws because sheriffs look at what they can get away with by manipulating the law. The law was probably meant at the time for decent people who became sheriff that used the extra funds towards their office rather than their pocket(people were decent and honest back then) It's been a quiet demon for so long. I find it interesting that these sheriffs are not showing their records. Maybe because their lawyers strongly advised against it...but that just proves we have a problem. You sheriffs have a huge responsibility. You need to worry about your office before your pocket. The public has never changed minds about that! If I send you my taxes, you better damn well make sure our deputies are covered!! Do not take our money and use it toward things we did not approve of. Your beach houses, vehicles, your kids, your mama and daddy...I could have used that for money for my own family. If I pay it, I currently understand you're making me safer. No, you say things to make me believe that but your RECORDS show otherwise!

    1. Additionally, let me just say that the inmate food fund was probably the beginning. I realize what it means to assume. But, I'd bet 1k on the fact Ana took monies from "several" accounts. What's said is said...most of them are digging their own hole to hide in. Prior to all this they ran the streets judging...now, they are quiet because they are being Judged. Did I mention we need training? These deputies might be as confused as the law.

  7. The days from exempting the sheriffs offices from a post standards and continued education needs to be over if there is this much money in the coffers that the sheriffs can waste and use for their own personal gain then certainly the sheriffs departments can afford to train their deputies and keep track of training hours as police departments must do

  8. Where is that smooth talking Scaming Steenson? No WiFi in jail? He and Ana are two peas in a pod so she needs to take note and realize what’s in her future also. And then all of Ana‘s cronies who believed Blake and Ana saying they had all this covered and everything would be OK. It’s going to get uglier before gets better but all of this will pass. Ana did say that right? She was right to a certain extent it will get worse before it gets better because they all will be in jail but that won’t last forever. There is corruption in many states including mine but Alabama seems to be much more widespread.
