Folks, we should all applaud Senator Author Orr, and County Commission Chairman Ray Long for their work on a constitutional amendment could prevent sheriffs in Morgan County from taking leftover inmate food funds. This amendment would leave it up to the citizen's vote. Sheriff Franklin is quick to say that she would support the proposal. Our opinion of Sheriff Ana Franklin's support is damn, you busted me for my thieving ways but hey no harm no foul. Why shouldn't the embattled sheriff agree with two of the most powerful men in Morgan County. She has been busted for her thieving ways.
We folks in the county should, however, realize that the sheriff has had seven long years to milk the inmate food money. That isn't so bad since Blakely how approximately 20 years of partaking of inmate food funds.
It is unfortunate for Sheriff Ana Franklin that she took the money before asking even though she obtained a legal opinion before taking office that she could not partake in the inmate food funds. Yet she continues to say nobody told her she couldn't take inmate food funds. If Sheriff Franklin really believes that nobody told her, do we really want another four years of a sheriff who cannot comprehend clear and frank wording from a county attorney?
We say prepare the constitutional amendment and let the voters decide if they want another sheriff who will starve the inmates for their own personal gain. If sheriff Franklin was honest, innocent, and had the best interest of the county in mind when she took office and as she proclaimed to the media in 2010 she would not have stolen inmate food funds. Sheriff Ana Franklin's lackluster seven years as sheriff has done nothing but give our county a black eye.
According to the daily, the proposal requires local legislative delegation as well as favorable votes from the citizens. Surely after the past seven years of experience with this sheriff, we can come together and vote positively to ensure that dirty, nasty, rotten, corrupts sheriffs never gets the opportunity to take inmate food funds as a personal gain in Morgan County.
As for Sheriff Franklin's investment in Performance Auto Sales the sheriff told so many lies about where she obtained the money to "invest" in Performance Auto Sales before telling the truth, you can bet this isn't her first rodeo and that she has taken far more money from the sheriff's office that than we are currently aware of.
Our opinion of Steven Ziaja's arrest is that his research on government databases reflect directly back to the Performance Auto Sales in at least four of the cases in which Ziaja research individuals for his own personal gain.
