Candidates for Sheriff of Morgan County - Who's missing?

Folks, the clock is running out for those who desire to throw their hat in the ring for sheriff.  So far it appears that the following individuals have put their name in.  Somebody is missing from the list.  Wonder who?  Wonder why?  Wonder when and if Ana will throw her hat in the ring?  Wonder when Ana will be indicted for her dirty deeds?  Will it be before or after she throws her hat in the ring?  Wonder! Wonder! Wonder!  What will Ana's platform look like this time?

Darrell Childers

My name is Darrell Childers and I want to first and foremost thank everyone for allowing me to have a few moments of your time. I am honored to announce my candidacy for the Sheriff of Morgan County in the upcoming election. I want everyone to know that I dedicate myself to the citizens of Morgan County so that core values such as honor, courage, commitment, integrity, and transparency are not just words spoken, but, more importantly, a constant example.

Furthermore, I want it to be known that I refuse to allow any coercion and/or deception to be involved in gaining a single vote. I do not desire to be considered a politician, because sadly in society today that title does not hold the value it once had. Instead, my calling has always been as a public servant.

Over my years of experience, in Public Safety, I have served and held the title of First Responder, FireFighter, Fire Chief, Sheriff's Deputy, and currently Police Officer. In addition, I have been and still am a private business owner in Morgan County. My experience in various professions within Public Safety, as well as the private sector, has given me a perspective that I feel will be very valuable as Sheriff. If elected, as Sheriff of this great County, I will ensure that all duties will be ethical, moral, and legal so that all the people are protected under the Constitution of this State and our great Nation.

Currently, I am the only candidate that still has boots on the ground, providing face-to-face service to the public as a law enforcement officer. It is important to me to remain current in training so that I may not fall short in the knowledge and experience needed to provide the best service possible to the citizens of this County, because that is what is deserved. Again, I want to thank everyone for allowing me a few moments of your time, prayers and support will always be appreciated.

Thank you,
Darrell

About Scott Owens

I have been a Morgan County citizen my entire life.  I will be 50 this year, and since the age of 21, I have been serving the public.  For 23 years as a firefighter in Trinity, for the last 5 an elected official as a council member in Trinity.  When I was elected, I asked to be liason of the police department, and have served our dept since day one.  I felt there was no better way to be a supervisor and help our police department, than to train, equip, and join our officers on patrol on weekend nights.  How can one know what your officers need without working side by side with them? For the last five years I have responded to and assisted with about every police duty possible.  Our officers know I have their back, and I know they have mine.  I am married with 4 grown children.  My wife, Kim Pettey Owens, is Assistant Fire Chief in Trinity.  I am self-employed with a successful contracting business.

United By A Common Goal

For too long the employees at the Morgan County Sheriff's Department have been under-paid and have felt unappreciated for the jobs they perform.  I want every employee to feel a loyalty and support from the top position down.  Every employee IS the department.  For successful public service to our Morgan County citizens, we will all work together with our ideas, our years of service, and experience to improve our county law enforcement and jail facilities.

My Motivation for This Position

I was employed by the Morgan County Sheriff's Dept in 2014 as a detention officer assigned to C-Pod.  I wanted the experience, and to see exactly the operation of the jail. After a few months, I realized I wanted to make a difference for those that do the job daily.  I left my position, opened my own business, and pledged to myself that I would work toward the opportunity to run for sheriff in the next election.  I now have that opportunity.  I am stepping forward and wanting the position to make a difference, to improve the working environment for the employees, and to improve our law enforcement in our county, outside of our municipal police jurisdictions.  As an Alabamian, a Morgan County citizen, and a taxpayer, I want transparency and a Sheriff that works for the people, not the sheriff.  If elected, every dollar that comes in and goes out of the department will be available to the public at the first of every month, in the sheriff's office.  There should be nothing to hide, and if I am sheriff, there will not be.  All discretionary funds will be made public beginning February 2019.

About Me
Randy Cavnar was born October 9, 1958, in Decatur Alabama and a 1977 graduate of Austin High School. He is a life long resident of Morgan County where he has served the public for 31 years as an officer (now retired) with Decatur Police Department.

Randy was sworn in with the Decatur Police Department on November 18 1980 and was assigned to day shift patrol. After only six months he attended, and graduated, from the 50th session of the Northeast Alabama Police Academy at Jacksonville State University.

After graduation he resumed his day shift assignment for four months then transferred to third shift patrol. Within six months Randy transferred to the department's traffic division where he became a "motor officer" and was assigned to the second shift (3pm to 11pm) traffic division shift. His primary responsibility in traffic was enforcement and accident investigation. He served in the traffic division for 11 years.

During his tour of duty, he attended (with other traffic officers) traffic homicide investigation schools conducted by the Huntsville Police Department (traffic homicide unit) at Athens State University along with courses in auto theft detection.

In his last 8 years in traffic, he was the first on call (for third shift) traffic homicide investigator. During those eight years he investigated seven critical accidents which resulted in grand jury indictments; six in Morgan County, one in Limestone County, and all seven cases eventually resulted in guilty convictions. Of those cases the first indictment and conviction of first degree assault by a motor vehicle was achieved.

As a Sergeant with Decatur Police Department (a responsible police management position), he had to lead, guide, direct, teach, train, coach, manage overtime, off days, and sick days of his personnel. All while recognizing problem areas of crime, address and execute a plan to attack that problem. Sergeants must handle citizens complaints about officer demeanor, enforce department policy, suggest policy, and assist in management of the department jail. Sergeant's must strive to keep morale high, and at the same time insure discipline. Sergeants respond to and make the calls at most all high profile and disaster scenes.

In Randy's last years with traffic division, he organized, and made a proposal, through the chain of command, to have all traffic division officers trained in traffic homicide investigation. He, also, was assigned to draft a written employee emergency evacuation plan for the Deputy U.S. Marshal Service assigned to the Federal Building. Both proposals were approved and, to date, are still in effect.

Randy Cavnar retired, at the rank of Sergeant, from the Decatur Police Department in July of 2011

During his career he received two medal commendations. One, a life saving effort for removing a person from a residential fire.

Well, I see 3 that is not the commissions yes men, 1 that will be. 2 That would screw up by getting rid of the County Dispatchers. Amazing 1 came out the same week Ray promised a 90K salary.

Anonymous said...

Cut to the chase. It’s no secret Ray wants to be large and in charge of the sheriffs office so he went out and got his man. Ana will announce while this is informative the deadline for declaring isn’t until next month. She thinks she can beat anyone and so does Ray and his pick. There is definitely two one for sure on your list that are not yes men so anyone that Ray is for I’m against he is a control freak. Ana will be in the race wait and see

I swore I'd never vote for Ana, but i will vote for her before A yes man to the Chairman.

Anonymous said...

Please tell us who the yes men will be and who will not.

Anonymous said...

Puckett will be a yes man. He has no backbone to make decisions

Anonymous said...

Who’s missing? Clairday

Anonymous said...

He must not have offered someone a job

Anonymous said...

Joke. Waste of time, money, and votes.

Anonymous said...

Actively recruited by Ray Long. Pay increase proposed. Enters race.
Coincidence, I'm sure.

Anonymous said...

Greedy and power-hungry, but not very intelligent.

Anonymous said...

Is Cavnar still calling the shots on this blog?

Anonymous said...

Above post in wrong spot, that was in reference to Ray.

Anonymous said...

Puckett isn’t the yes guy it’s Childers. Ray Long interviews Childers as the best guy. Cavnar get a grip it ain’t you.

Anonymous said...

Cavnar has never called the shots on the blog he is a puss. No original thought.

Anonymous said...

Who ever Ray Long is for and it’s Puckett everyone except this blog seems to know this and who the blog is pushing clearly Childers because only one other candidate gets smashed on here and it’s Cavnar. So I’ll choose not to vote for long or the blogs choices. Having pointed that out it’s no secret that in the last election Long made it clear that he did not want a DPD Officer in as sheriff this is very old news and everyone knows he wants to control the sheriffs office. So he got a candidate and that person will get a hefty pay raise. I’m surprised that this is just now being discussed it is old news and the Sheriff will be running so get use to that.

My name is Rebel I am a American Bulldog out of Lacon Running. Don't take me lightly I have seen my fellow dog brothers that Big Bad Bones have killed. I am not happy. I can run as a dog better than anyone out there. I will sniff out corruption...I wont even take a paycheck. Throw me a bone or two and I will do my job. I had a good friend Aubie that was shot by Bones...that really pissed me off...Bones I will be your boss one day. Don't ever come in my yard with a gun.

Anonymous said...

That's hilarious! I heard he shot a rat terrier too...nice training Ana. Then she held a new conference "I will personally sue the owner of this facebook page" We don't need another Sheriff like this in Morgan County...My vote is for Bulldog Rebel!

Anonymous said...

Justice for Aubie!

My sources disagree. I've been told Cavnar was basically in charge of this whole filthy operation. No idea if he still is, though.

Anonymous said...

Way I see it, if your name ain't Franklin or Puckett, you ought to just pack it up and go home. You're just gonna waste a bunch of money to ensure a runoff.

Puckett is Ray hand picked Candidate

Anonymous said...

I take Ana any day over Ray Long boy. Ray trying to run the whole County. Puckett will never buck Ray for a raise for the Deputies. If Puckett gets it, might as well say the Puckett & Long show. I'll have to stick with Ana if it's between Puckett or Ana.

Holding off making a pick right now. It's still early, but all I have to go on is these four pieces which told me nothing. Voted for Childers four years ago, though I'm putting everyone on equal ground now......except for Ana if she ever officially announces, I'll never vote for her.

Wake me when they start talking about other issues other than the food and funds. I want to know how they will protect the 4th Amendment and not try to circumvent it like Morgan County deputies currently do. I want to know just how much they will enforce an increasingly unpopular war on drugs. I want to know if they will heavily enforce draconian marijuana laws because "it's the law" or if they will actually SERVE the people who a majority are in favor of legalizing it. I want to know if they will come out and say they will not use civil asset forfeiture absent a criminal conviction. I want to know their stance on profiling. I want to know if they are for police militarization or not. I want to know under what circumstances they plan on using SWAT teams and no-knock raids. I want to know if they will hire on another officer or deputy who was fired from another agency due to disciplinary problems.

Blah blah blah Whistleblower supporting Childers. Long and who ever supporting Puckett. Ana is supporting herself the others don’t matter why go vote? It’s all figured out right here!!
Ana hasn’t been indicted like we have heard over and over and over on here. Should she be sheriff? No. Should ray longs hand picked guy? No How about we just go and vote. Yes Ana will run people and she might just win. Then again she might not

Speaking of Bones i hear Ana has him working on the blogger. He and my buddy Robinson has been taking turns. Any of the guys in the drug task force will tell you Bones is a lazy piece of shit and will hire his work out to informants and inmates he is to lazy to move a muscle. Robinson can't even stop a car and get the laws right.

All the wannabees better not order signs...do your homework...see who is the likely candidate to win. We all know it wont be Ana...she will be wearing orange soon. I respect everyone running...go get corruption.
