Boss Tweed - or - Mama Ana

Blogger Comments:   Boss Tweed or Mama Ana.  Dang, I can't believe Franklin asked her employees to call her Mama Ana.  Back to the story at hand.  It doesn't matter if the criminal activity involves mega millions or just a couple of million.  Prison treats them all the same.

The sheer dominance of New York power broker William "Boss" Tweed's well-oiled political machine, Tammany Hall, was so influential and such that his first arrest on corruption charges (October 27, 1871) was achieved only through a long campaign of public shaming in the press, and a batch of brilliantly barbed political cartoons.
Tweed became a powerful figure in New York City’s Democratic political machine in the late 1850s. By the mid 1860s, he had risen to the top position in the organization and formed the “Tweed Ring,” which openly bought votes, encouraged judicial corruption, extracted millions from city contracts, and dominated New York City politics. The Tweed Ring reached its peak of fraudulence in 1871 with the remodeling of the City Court House, a blatant embezzlement of city funds that was exposed by The New York Times. Tweed and his flunkies hoped the criticism would blow over, but thanks to the efforts of opponents such as Harper’s Weekly political cartoonist Thomas Nast, who conducted a crusade against Tweed, virtually every Tammany Hall member was swept from power in the elections of November 1871.

All of the Tweed Ring were subsequently tried and sentenced to prison. Tweed himself was convicted for stealing an amount estimated by an aldermen's committee at between $25 million and $45 million from New York City taxpayers through political corruption, although later estimates ranged as high as $200 million. He served time for forgery and larceny and other charges, but in 1875, he escaped from prison and traveled to Cuba and Spain. In 1876, he was arrested by Spanish police, who reportedly recognized him from a famous Nast cartoon depiction. After Tweed’s extradition to the United States, he was returned to prison, where he died in 1878.

"I don't care a straw for your newspaper articles, my constituents don't know how to read, but they can't help seeing them damned pictures."

"I don't care who does the electing, so long as I get to do the nominating."

"The way to have power is to take it."

  1. 150 years later and the corruption is still running rampant!
    Somebody PLEASE make it stop!

  2. Boss Ana getting ready for her big night. Loving Charley while trying to impress Roy Moore at Fredricks place.. He will probably smell corruption seeping through her pours. Be careful Roy that smell you smell maybe from last nights alcohol and a taste of the ole wacky weed.

  3. She would not take the stage! Was it the constitutional carry advocate or the fact she is not prepared or will never announce she is running. Bet she may be afraid to announce because it may trigger events she is not at all prepared for. Run or not it will not change the inevitable. Goodbye Ana! Maybe she will just resign so the Sheriffs Office can move on and the heat won’t be as bad because she is not front and center in the spot light. Rumor has it that she will soon have more attention than any politician in Alabama. Corruption and dishonesty of her corruption front and center for everyone to see. No wonder she would not take the stage. Maybe her resignation would prevent further exposure of the truth. Keep it coming Whistleblowers. Anxiously awaiting the much anticipated next step. How can Ana even rationally think she can keep all of this quiet now? This is likely why she would not get on stage. Fear of accountability because of her own actions now sinking in? Kind of glad she did bring disgrace to those others on that stage. For once Ana did something right!

Dang, you folks can't help but lie. Sheriff Ana Franklin DID go on stage, I think it was right after the gun rights lady or Alice Martin. Y'all obviously weren't even there. Each speaker only had a couple minutes, but the Sheriff gave a positive message about the future of Morgan County.
All y'all know how to do is lie.

  5. That’s cool then she gave a positive message I wasn’t there. I stand corrected then. Did she say she was going to run? First sentence was supposed to end with a question mark. Can’t fix it once it went out and did not know it till now. Did she announce she was running? I hope not.

    1. Didn't hear anything official. They only talked for a minute or so.

    2. I actually did not go because of all the politics. Would have like many times before but did not want to be a political party listening to all the political crap.

  6. If I were her knowing how much money she has stole and how many lies she has told and how much taxpayers funds went into billable barney defending her I would have to crawl in a hole or get on the first flight out of the Country. Hopefully the feds have her on a no fly list.

  7. Little does Ana (Corrupt Sheriff of Morgan County) Knows how to lie and people believe her. That's fixing to end. Don't steal taxpayers dollars...don't use your office for personal gain...don't commit ethics violations...don't invest into your cousin (convicted felon) car lots, and don't certainly lie about all and hide all on your statement of economic interest forms you are required to file and actually be truthful on. Pretty sure your dog and pony show is over.

  8. She knows it is. She is trying to figure out how to make the best deal. She does not care about anyone else because she knows most of them rolled on her.

  9. The laws protect the criminals way to much when even the law enforcement can be the criminals and they do not get held accountable.
