A federal judge on Tuesday scheduled a hearing in Decatur for Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin to show cause why she should not be held in contempt of court.
U.S. District Judge Abdul Kallon set the hearing for March 23 at 9 a.m. in the federal courthouse in Decatur.
The Southern Center for Human Rights recently filed the motion requesting that Franklin show why she should not be held in contempt for allegedly not complying with a 2009 amended court decree that requires all money received by the Morgan County sheriff to feed inmates be used exclusively for that purpose.
Franklin denied The Decatur Daily’s public records request for copies of the jail’s food account, claiming the account is her private account.
