Hartselle officer recovering from dog bites By Michael Wetzel Staff Writer

Folks, our thoughts and prayers go out to Sean Persall a Hartselle Police Officer bitten by dogs in the line of duty.  Even though he was mauled by three dogs believed to be pit bull dogs Persall shot into the air causing the dogs to retreat instead of shooting the dogs.  Bones Wilson could learn some lessons from the Hartselle Police Department officers.  You do not necessarily need to shoot animals in most cases.  You do not need to shoot humans in most cases.  The key is education and training.

Decatur Daily article:

HARTSELLE — Hartselle police officer Sean Persall is recovering from multiple dog bites after working a call today.
Persall, an 11-year veteran of the police department, was dispatched to a residence on Railroad Street Northwest to check on a person who had threatened overdose.
Upon arrival, Persall was approaching a trailer on the property when he was attacked by multiple dogs. Persall was able to fire one shot from his service weapon, and the dogs retreated into a nearby camper on the property, a statement from the department said.
Persall was transported to the Decatur Morgan Hospital's emergency room by private vehicle and was treated for multiple bites. Three dogs, believed to be pit bulls, were seized by Morgan County Animal Control. The incident remains under investigation.
