Coburn and the wrecked vehicle

Folks, why would a deputy drive in excess of 115 mph?  I understand that Deputy Coburn was doing just that when he crashed into another vehicle and totaled a MCSO vehicle.  I can't think of any situation that would force a deputy to travel at that rate of speed.

Was someone trapped in a submerged vehicle in a waterway?  Was someone trapped in a burning house?  Why would a deputy be required to put his life as well as the life of others in jeopardy?
